Range High School opened in 1975 with 165 pupils, 10 teaching staff and 5 main support staff.

Formby needed another secondary school as Formby High at the time had around 2000 pupils.

Graham Leech was appointed as the first Head teacher of the school and remained in post for 17 years until his retirement in 1992.

Mr Leech built  strong foundations for the school, including introducing a House System which continues to this day quoting Ofsted ‘a major strength of the school’.

He named the four houses Blundell, Derby, Sefton and Weld.  Blundell and Weld were named after well-known local families, Derby after Lord Derby and Sefton after the newly named local authority.

The first stage of the school build included rooms 1-6, the dining hall, the library and staff room.  Further rooms were included in stage 2 as the school increased in size.

Range High School has now around 1300 pupils and 134 teaching and support staff.  There have been a number of further builds over the years.
