Criminology is a dynamic and relevant subject within our sixth form offer, giving students the opportunity to explore the nature of crime, its causes and its impact on individuals and society. Through the WJEC Level 3 Applied Diploma in Criminology, students investigate real-world issues, from understanding why people commit crimes to examining how the criminal justice system operates.
We aim to deliver Criminology in a way that is both engaging and practical, encouraging students to apply their learning to contemporary case studies and develop their skills in research, analysis and problem-solving. The course combines elements of psychology, law and sociology, helping students to consider different perspectives and form informed judgements about crime and punishment.
Criminology is designed to be accessible and relevant to a wide range of learners, supporting them in becoming thoughtful and informed members of society. It also provides a strong foundation for further study and careers in areas such as law, policing, social work and beyond, while equipping students with valuable transferable skills that can be applied in many future pathways.
We run a number of extra curricular activities throughout Year 12 and 13.
● Year 13 – New York trip – we visit the 9-11 memorial, visit SpyScape along with the Supreme and Criminal Courts in Manhattan.
● Year 12 – Liverpool Crown Court trip
● Both year groups have guest speakers throughout the year in order to enrich their subject specific knowledge.
● Year 13 have a visit from a local prison officer, helping them ask career related questions and are able to enhance their learning for Unit 4.
