Careers Education and Guidance at Range High School

We’re committed to providing all students in Year 7-13 with a programme of tailored careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG). This programme is guided by the Gatsby benchmarks for ensuring best practice and the Career
Development Institute Framework and evaluated using feedback from stakeholders and Compass+ evaluations. It will be timely, integrated and promote equality of opportunity, embrace diversity and challenge stereotypes.

The Careers Co-ordinator, along with the Enterprise Advisor Network, Independent Careers Advisor, Curriculum Leaders, external providers, Link Governor and employers, strives for continuous improvement through building on each benchmark further. The school is a member of the Liverpool City Region Careers Hub.

The school is committed to all 8 Benchmarks

  1. A stable Careers Programme
  2. Learning from Career and labour market information
  3. Addressing the needs of each student
  4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experience of workplaces
  7. Encounters with further and higher education
  8. Personal Guidance

We support students in making well-informed decisions by providing access to differentiated, impartial and independent information, advice and guidance about the range of pathways available to them (including academic, vocational, technical and apprenticeships). By supporting students with decisions at crucial transition points, we aim to prepare them for the world of work, whichever pathway they choose. As a result, our pupils, including those with additional educational needs and disabilities, move on to appropriate further education and training following Year 11 or Year 13.

REVIEW OF CAREERS EDUCATION AND GUIDANCE APPROACH

Our school Careers programme is reviewed on an annual basis by the Careers Co-ordinator with support from SLT and governors. We measure the impact of our programme in the following ways:

  • We review student post-16 and post-18 destinations data alongside the local authority and Career Connect. The effectiveness of our Careers programme will be reflected in the high number of students progressing to positive destinations after Year 11, such as apprenticeships, the school’s sixth form, sixth form colleges and further education colleges and after Year 13, such as universities and apprenticeships, including degree apprenticeships.
  • We complete termly Compass+ reviews to assess the school’s progress towards achieving the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks of good careers guidance. The Careers programme is revised based on the outcomes of these audits.
  • We obtain feedback from key stakeholders, including students, staff, parents, employers and educational providers.  This feedback is collected through questionnaires and focus groups following key careers activities and is used to make improvements to the careers programme.
  • The Careers Policy is reviewed by the Careers Co-ordinator and ratified by Governors.
