Geography education in 2024 is more important than ever before. Geography is no longer simply about memorising maps and place names, but rather about understanding the complex interactions between people, places, and the environment. At Range we aim to equip students with the knowledge and skills to navigate a rapidly changing world and make informed decisions about the challenges that we face as a global community.

Firstly, a good Geography education should be interdisciplinary, drawing on a range of subjects including history, economics, political science, and environmental science. This interdisciplinary approach allows students to understand the interconnections between different fields of study and apply this knowledge to real-world issues.

Secondly, a good Geography education should be grounded in sustainability and social justice. The challenges facing our planet, such as climate change, resource depletion, and social inequality, require a holistic approach that takes into account the needs of both people and the environment. Thirdly, a good Geography education should emphasise critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Finally, a good Geography education should be inclusive and diverse, recognising the contributions and experiences of people from all backgrounds. This includes the representation of marginalised communities in the curriculum.

In conclusion, geography at Range aims to be interdisciplinary, grounded in sustainability and social justice, emphasise critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and be inclusive and diverse. By providing students with these skills and knowledge, we can equip them to tackle the challenges facing our planet and build a more just and sustainable future for all.

• Overseas trips – We offer the opportunity for pupils to experience geography in the real world by overseas trips. In the past we have taken Year 11,12 and 13 to Iceland and Italy
• Local trips – We offer the opportunity for pupils to experience real life physical landscapes in a number of different trips that we offer. These include; Malham Cove, Ingleton Falls, Chester Zoo and more.
• Geography Club – This club joins after school giving pupils the chance to make a positive change the school environment and local communities. An example of activity undertaken is local beach cleans. This club is open to all years.
• Fieldwork – Being ideally placed on the Sefton Coast gives the department an ideal environment for fieldwork opportunities. We use this unique geographical location to carry out fieldwork with pupils in all Key Stages including geographical sketching, environmental quality surveys, vegetation surveys and beach profiling
