A group of Y9 girls attended a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) event in Crosby recently. The event was organised by Soroptomist International, a global volunteer movement working together to transform the lives of women and girls.
The girls had an interactive session with the activities first and then had a chance to speak to a number of women with STEM careers from various organisations with different roles. Jaguar Landrover, Alder Hey, Royal Liverpool Hospital, the Tissue bank (NHS blood and transplant), Engineering environmental consultant were all represented, as well as a civil engineer running her own successful company.
The girls all enjoyed the afternoon and are all tempted to pursue STEM careers as a result.
Y9 girls: Evie Welsford, Lucy Grundy, Sophie Kilkelly, Amelia Grimshaw, Charlotte Berry, Jessica Dwyer, Katherine Lyall, Scarlett Wilkins and Lola McLoughlin.
